Anterior Hip Replacement
Hip replacement surgery is an extremely safe and effective procedure. At Phoenix Spine & joint, our surgeons are trained in the Anterior approach for hip replacement, a minimally invasive technique that allows surgery to be performed in a manner that causes less trauma to the body as compared to older methods for hip replacement. Both surgeons and patients favor the anterior approach as it does not require any muscles to be cut, and only involves a small incision.
Patients electing to have anterior hip replacement generally enjoy a faster recovery with less pain. Other benefits include:
- Performed on an outpatient basis
- Less blood loss
- Faster healing time
- Less scarring
- Earlier mobilization
- Less restrictions on movement after surgery
- Reduction in post surgical complications, i.e. dislocations
Because the anterior approach is muscle sparing, there is a significantly decreased risk of dislocation, which is more commonly seen with patients who have had hip replacement using older more “traditional” methods. With a lower risk of dislocation and faster mobilization, post surgical rehab after anterior hip surgery is generally much quicker.
