What is the recovery time for spinal fusion? 1024 683 Phoenix Spine & Joint

Our team at Phoenix Spine & Joint is proud to offer minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery, and we want to help patients understand more about this amazing procedure. One question we’re often asked is, “What is the recovery time for spinal fusion?”

How long does it take to recover from spinal fusion?

Our minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery is unique in many ways. However, one way it’s different from traditional spinal fusion is it can be completed more rapidly. The amount of time the surgery lasts is often dependent on the patient, but in most cases, our surgeons can complete this surgery in a couple of hours. You’ll also need some time to recover from the effects of the anesthetic used during the surgery. Even so, most of our patients are able to have the surgery performed as an outpatient procedure that allows them to return home the same day.

The time it takes you to recover once you’re back home also varies from patient to patient. However, our team has noticed that it generally takes patients about six weeks to recover from our minimally invasive spinal fusion procedure. This is significant because the recovery time for traditional spinal fusion can often be up to three months or more. In addition to the minimally invasive procedure we use, Phoenix Spine & Joint has a nearly zero percent post-surgery infection rate, and a lack of infection typically helps patients recover more rapidly.
